Find a DMV appointment for your Real ID
Booking a DMV or Real ID appointment means digging through a confusing state website for open slots and the right paperwork.
What the agent did
Amanda Caswell at Tom's Guide got a notice that she couldn't renew her driver's license online, and she also needed a Real ID. Dreading hours at the motor vehicle office, she asked ChatGPT agent to book an appointment at her local office. She says it pulled up everything she needed to book in 19 seconds and called the errand fast and surprisingly effective.
What the owner still checks
Stick to your state's official .gov site. Look-alike sites charge extra for appointments that are free. Check the document list against the official site before you go, because Real ID rules are strict and vary by state.
Read every field of a government form before it is submitted, and keep a copy of what was sent.

I need to [renew my driver's license / get a Real ID] in [state], near [city or zip]. 1) Find my state's official motor vehicle website (not a third-party service) and the right appointment type for this. 2) Show me the earliest open appointments at the [2-3] closest offices. 3) List the documents I need to bring for a Real ID, and the fee. 4) Fill in the booking form up to the last step, then stop and show me so I can check it and confirm it myself. Don't pay anything or enter my license or Social Security number.
